Jewel

Jewel Kilcher was born on May 23, 1974. She was raised on an 800-acre homestead which is located in Homer, Alaska. Both of Jewel's parents were musicians and Jewel toured with them since the age of five, starting out with her parents doing numbers for tourists in Eskimo villages, etc. At age six, she began a regular yodeling routine. Her parents divorced, but Jewel continued to tour with her father for most of the next seven years.

Jewel attended Michigan's Interlochen Fine Arts Academy for her last two years of high school. The tuition was paid with a vocal scholarship. Here, Jewel began writing her own songs and playing the guitar.

After high school, Jewel came to San Diego to stay with her mom. After a brief trip to Colorado, she returned to San Diego, which she now calls home. She worked strange jobs, including waitressing. She soon moved into her VW van, and with lots of peanut butter, carrot sticks and a guitar, she settled down to write poetry and songs.

She began performing at the Innerchange Coffeehouse regularly. Even if at first crowds were small, Jewel was soon performing her songs in front of sell-out crowds. It was there that Atlantic Records found her and offered her a record deal at age 19. Pieces of You was recorded live from the coffeehouse and released on February 28, 1995.

New CD out on November 17!

"Spirit"

On September 16 Jewel completed recording for her new CD titled, "Spirit".

The recording took place in a Los Angeles studio and was produced by Patrick Leonard who has produced for Madonna in the past. The studio was near a horse stable where Jewel was able to take breaks between sessions and find some peace riding her horse.

The CD was released in Canada, Europe and the U.S. on November 17, 1998. Asia, Australia, and South America release dates are undertermined at this time but will be revealed in the next few days.

"Hands" the first single from the CD will be promoted on radio and Mtv and VH1 starting October 26. "Hands" is a new song that Jewel has never performed live. There is a quote form the song that Jewel has been saying for years "In The End Only Kindness Matters". That sentiment eminates as the theme throughout the rest of the CD.

The CD is beautiful and lyrical. The CD is an anecdote - it encorages thought and inspires goodness.
